Visit by the Mayor of Porto, Pedro Duarte, and the architect Eduardo Souto Moura to the construction site of the Porto Municipal Public Library

The redevelopment and extension project for the Porto Municipal Public Library was visited by the Mayor of Porto, Pedro Duarte, and the architect Eduardo Souto Moura, who designed the project.

During the visit, the project was presented by both men, who highlighted the vision behind the project and its importance for the city’s future. Between 2026 and 2029, the Porto Municipal Public Library will be transformed into a cultural facility equipped to meet the demands of the 21st century, combining heritage preservation with new features and functions.

With an investment of around 34 million euros, this is the largest project undertaken by GO Porto in the last 25 years and represents an important milestone for the city, reinforcing the library’s role as a space for knowledge, culture and social interaction.

We continue to work to bring this project to fruition, which will help to enhance the existing heritage and create new opportunities for those who live in, study in and visit Porto.
